Swiss Audio's Demo 370Z

Postby Neo » Sun Aug 29, 2010 9:22 am

Hello all,
You must be wondering what we have been upto these days. Well we were secretly working on a small project which unfortunately lasted two weeks. And still the work isnt completed. :)

Vehicle : 2009 370Z
Owner: DOCAAM
Existing system: Factory CD player

Proposed system
Head unit :
Kenwood DNX5360

Accessories:
Kenwood Bluetooth module
Kenwood Reverse Camera
PAC SWI JACK - Steering wheel Integration

Speakers :
Kicker KS 60.2 Front component speakers

Amplifiers :
Swiss Audio Elite series E640.4 (4 Channel for the speakers)
Swiss Audio Elite series E1200.1 (Mono Block for the sub 1)
Swiss Audio Elite series E1200.1 (Mono Block for the sub 2)

Sub woofer:
Swiss Audio SPL1291L x 2 (1000W RMS, 12 inch SPL Subwoofer)

Accessories:
Kicker PKD1 (1/0AWG dual amplifier power wire kit)
Kicker Fuse Block x 4
Kicker Distribution Block x 2

Sound proofing: Skematix Vibramat sound tiles

Objective: To create a Custom yet subtle setup in the Z that will compliment the JDM side. Swiss Audio would like to have a demo car hence sponsored the Products as well as installation. We wanted to setup a car that is loud and clear with some spl capability if necessary. Well due to the lack of space and power this is no SPL vehicle. But its definitely loud.

You will know why we call it subtle in the end.

Enclosure: 1.5 cuft sealed and partitioned box

Now the pictures and description.

The ZZZZZZZZZ

Now remember this picture below as this is the before picture.
And all of the above stuff should go in here...

After calculations the system will pull around 200Amperes at full load.
This based on the fuse ratings of the amplifiers.
This means 4AWG or even our special 25mm2 thick power wires wont be enough.
Thus we upgraded to Kicker 1/0 AWG power wire kit which can handle upto 3000W system.
Those wires are really thick and extremely flexible.

This would also mean the big 3 upgrade in car audio should be performed

Add thicker Ground wire from battery to the chassis
Add thicker ground wire from engine to chassis
Add thicker power wire from Alternator to battery positive terminal.

Fortunately we noted that nissan has already installed 1/0 AWG wires for the alternator but total skipped on battery wires.

So we upgraded the negative battery terminal and added the 1/0 AWG wires for the body from the battery and 25mmsq (3 awg) wires from engine to body.

This is more like a grounding kit you would you for electrical improvements.

The engine compartment.

Note the tiny bit of negative terminal, its not even 4AWG.

Nissan I am sorry so say this, the door pads in the Z are terrible. I can understand the weight reduction, but this is too much. But I would like to say the door construction is pretty strong and reinforced... I bet safety.

As you all can see I barely laid 1 layer on the door and 1 inside the pad with closed cell foam. Honestly another 2 hours were spend to remove some of them. And even more time to fix the door.
This is not good as it will not help much in reducing road noise.
The door pads are flimsy and mounted using only crappy plastic locks except for three screws in the middle. These locks wont go in if there is as much as a thin paper in between them.

We will try our best to silence the cabin. We will definitely avoid rattling due to bass.

The Subs!!!

Image

The First Rack!!!

Image

Mono Block amps converted to GCC Spec.

Image

Sitting inside a trunk, under another amp, in a crammed space, with no ventilation and sealed these amps are going to go through a torture the engineers didnt expect. So a small 40mm fan is installed in two corners so there is complete air flow from all the ends. This should give the amps a little bit of peace. The fan would come on when the amp is turned on. So far the db on the fan is too low to be noticed and this shouldnt be bothersome.

Image

Note: We didnt perform this step on the four channel amp. We decided it wont get that hot. But we were wrong. The 4 channel will require fan upgrade as well.

Night shots aint good.
First rack been test fitted.

Image

Wires wires wires... We decided against sending these wires through drilled holes in the trunk. No unnecessary drilling. We instead used a route used by factory wires. Neatly stacked the plastic cover shouldnt have a problem concealing them.

Finished wood panels in carbon fiber...

Our verdict:
The Kicker components speakers and Kicker accessories gives the SWISS AUDIO Subs and Amp the best support.
The Swiss AUDIO subs really shine will real good performance. Anyone who listened to the subs in the car would agree.
The Swiss AUDIO Mono Amps are capable and they provide raw performance.
The Swiss Audio 4 channel did exhibit some good SQ capability but extreme temperatures can hamper its best performance.
The Carbon fibre Material Provided by DOCAAM is awesome until it meets a rounded corned or curved wrapping.

So final pics from us until changes are made to this.
